Mad*Pow
Director, Center for Health Experience Design
Boston, MA
It's not often our "Team" roster boasts degrees in Physics, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Design Strategy. All held by one person.

But Kathryn, new director of Mad*Pow's Center for Health Experience Design, has done things in a distinctive way for a long time. During her prior work with Deloitte, where she was a senior manager at the Deloitte Greenhouse Innovation Lab, and at Kaiser Permanente, where she was in the Innovation & Advanced Technology group in at the company's Garfield Health Care Innovation Center. There's also her work at Synopsys and Intel.

She's taking her commitment to innovation in health care to the CHXD, which provides a base for organizations to connect and generate a shared understanding of problems faced in health care experience design and collaborate around solutions. Partners have included Boston Children's Hospital, Massachusetts Health Quality Partners, Cigna, Muskegon Family Care, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Behavioral Health Innovators (BHI).

Kathryn says she like to encourage holistic approaches to health care challenges, inspired, perhaps, by her time in Copenhagen at the Danish Museum of Art & Design, focusing on the different ways design has played critical roles in fashion, furniture, textiles, and machinery.

When she's not contemplating the future of healthcare, she's contemplating the successful release of injured wildlife from the Cape Wildlife Center, where she is an enthusiastic volunteer.
